CNN News: Hollywood Takes On Porn (Middle Men)

Hollywood has been known to push the envelope with blockbuster films and is continually creating new genre’s that will interest moviegoers.  With millions flocking to theaters worldwide, we take a look at films that highlight a taboo subject matter, the adult film industry.  From an industry worth billions it is no surprise that Hollywood takes on porn and would try and create films focusing on this subject matter.  From Oxymoron Entertainment’s 2009 film entitled, “Middle Men” starring Luke Wilson about the internet porn industry, to 2013′s “Lovelace” starring Amanda Seyfried about a porn star, fans can find a wide selection to choose from.
CNN recently posted a slideshow containing a vast array of movies based on the subject, Hollywood takes on porn.  Oxymoron Entertainment’s Middle Men is one of many films based on the adult film industry, whether it be about the industry itself or about the actors that star in porn.
Middle MenIn 1995, everyone had a VCR, music was sold in record stores, and the world-wide-web was a new found discovery.  Businessman Jack Harris (Luke Wilson) had the perfect life – a beautiful family and a successful career fixing problem companies.  Then he met Wayne Beering (Giovanni Ribisi) and Buck Dolby (Gabriel Macht), two genius but troubled men, who had invented the way adult entertainment is sold over the internet.  When Jack agrees to help steer their business, he soon finds himself caught between a 23 year-old porn star and the FBI all the while becoming one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs of his time.  Witness a story so outrageous, you won’t believe it’s true. A story that proves business is a lot like sex… getting in is easy, pulling out is hard.

Giovanni Ribisi From Middle Men to Join Cast of Seth Macfarlane Comedy

Giovanni Ribisi from Middle Men is in talks to join the cast of yet another Seth Macfarlane movie.  In 2012 Ribisi played the creepy kidnapper in Ted, written, produced, and directed by Seth Macfarlane.  A Million Ways to Die in the West is another wacky comedy from the creator of Family Guy.  The movie is about a cowardly farmer played by Macfarlane, seeking the help of a gunslinger’s wife to help him win back the woman who left him and in turn develops feelings for her.  Giovanni Ribisi is slated to play Macfarlane’s character’s best friend Edward.  Edward is a simple shoe repairman who is dating a prostitute that won’t have sex with him, even though she is sleeping with everyone else.

If you like Seth Macfarlane and enjoyed Ted, hopefully A Million Ways to Die in the West will follow in its footsteps!  Giovanni is talented and his work is great in anything he does.

“For me, acting is all about the aesthetic.  I just want to keep honing my craft.  Not that I’m taking myself too seriously, but every artist should consider himself Picasso.  Otherwise, you’re doing yourself and injustice.”  We hope to keep seeing Giovanni Ribisi, from Middle Men, honing his craft.  We look forward to seeing him in this part for Seth Macfarlane’s new movie, and any other movies in the future.  Let us know what you think of Giovanni Ribisi from Middle Men.  Do you have a favorite movie he was in or maybe a favorite part he has played?  We want to hear what you think about his part in Seth Macfarlane’s new movie.

Terry Crews From Middle Men Makes Appearance in Scary Movie 5

Scary Movie 5, the fifth installment of the Scary Movie Franchise, hit theaters on Friday. Terry Crews from Middle Men joined Simon Rex for a Hilarious Planet Of The Apes scene.  The movie stars Ashley Tisdale and Simon Rex as a couple with a newborn baby, getting stalked by a demon.  Scary Movie 5 parodies many popular movies from the past couple of years.  Most of the movie is parodied after Paranormal Activity and Mama, but other movies that come into play include The Black Swan, Madea, and even Inception with an actor who looks a lot like a shorter less handsome version of Leo DiCaprio.

Find Out Where Your Favorite Movies Were Filmed

Ever wonder where your favorite movies were filmed?  Are you interested to find out where your favorite movies were filmed?  Maybe you are a movie buff or maybe you want to find out more about an old movie.  What many people may not know are that movies aren’t just filmed on movie sets in Hollywood!  Many movies are filmed outside “on location” all over the world.

Even though Hollywood only exists in LA, not all movies are shot there!  Many movies and TV shows are filmed on location, maybe right down the street from where you live.  Do you want to find out where your favorite movies were filmed?

Check these out…maybe you know where these famous movie scenes were shot!

According to Wikipedia, it is often mistakenly believed that filming “on location” takes place in the actual location in which its story is set, but this is not necessarily the case. Sometimes you will find that a movie may be set somewhere specific, like maybe on a beach in Washington state, but it is actually filmed on a beach in Oregon somewhere!  Or you never know, you could live in a town where a movie has been filmed, or filmed close by.  Find out where your favorite movies were filmed and some other fun facts about movie locations.  Check out these sites to see where these movies and where your favorite movies were filmed on location!

Middle Men Movie Review from MTV by Kurt Loder.

Putting porn on the Internet was a no-brainer: Masturbating millions wanted the stuff and were eager to pay for their solitary pleasures. The problem was how to separate these lonely souls from their money digitally.

Laura Ramsey (photo via Paramount Vantage)

According to “Middle Men,” a new movie “inspired by a true story,” this problem was solved by Wayne Beering (Giovanni Ribisi) and Buck Dolby (Gabriel Macht), two over-wound young L.A. hustlers who in 1997 created a computer program to enable online credit-card payments, and then, in a further refinement, hatched the idea of anonymous billing, so that instead of your wife or whoever coming across a credit-card charge from, say, “Milf Wagon Productions,” all she would see would be a payment to, say, “24/7 Billing Company.” This allowed Wayne and Buck to operate, not as actual pornographers, but as blameless middlemen between the skin trade’s suppliers and consumers. Brilliant.

The story is approximately derived from the experiences of Christopher Mallick, one of the film’s producers. Back in the wild ’90s, Mallick was an executive with the online billing outfit Paycom, and if “Middle Men” is any indication of the adventures he truly endured, it’s something of a surprise that he’s still alive.

Having set up their fledgling porn site and billing operation, Wayne and Buck (both fictitious characters) settle back to wait for customers. Their wait is brief — money comes gushing in immediately. Soon they’re making $25,000 a day, and before long, much, much more. Unfortunately, enveloped as they are in a haze of booze, cocaine and VHS porn tapes, they have no capacity for conducting business. After deciding to produce their own porn for uploading, and visiting a big strip club to recruit performers, they find themselves in the crosshairs of a Russian mobster named Nikita (Rade Serbedzija). He agrees to supply the girls, but he wants 25 percent of the profits. Wayne and Buck realize they’re in over their heads. Fortunately, a skeezy lawyer named Haggerty (James Caan) connects them with a real businessman, a mild-mannered fixer named Jack Harris (Luke Wilson), who specializes in bailing out troubled companies. Jack is a straight arrow with a wife and kids and a beautiful home in Houston. But he immediately sees the lucrative possibilities in setting up Wayne and Buck — and himself — as porn-world middlemen. It’s just another business, he figures, and he’s confident he won’t get sucked down into the slime.

He’s wrong, of course — it wouldn’t be much of a movie if he weren’t. But there’s also an interesting twist. Following an accidental death that puts the Russian mobsters in an even surlier mood than usual (“I kill you, your family, people you haven’t met yet,” says Nikita), Jack is approached by Curt Allmans (Kevin Pollak), an agent with the FBI’s Organized Crime Task Force. Surprisingly, Allmans has no interest in rocking Jack’s porn boat; in fact, he wants him to keep chugging along. Because it turns out that among the millions of porn hounds logging onto Wayne and Buck’s proliferating sites are Arab terrorists (“They’re men,” Allmans says, by way of unnecessary explanation), and as soon as they make that fatal mouse-click, the U.S. military can target and terminate them.

New Horror Film Ninety From Oxymoron Entertainment Set To Out-Gore Saw?

It’s very rare to find an in-production movie on which virtually nothing is written or known, but that seems to be the case with the horror film Ninety, an Oxymoron Entertainment production that sounds like a cross between Se7en and Natural Born Killers. Director Darren Lynn Bousman says there will be a fun, camp element at play in the film as well.

Who is Darren Lynn Bousman? You ask.

Bousman helmed three installments (II, III, and IV) of the Saw series, which basically created the gore horror genre–or at least the newest generation of gore–and arguably comprises the biggest horror franchise of this century. Only the Final Destination series holds a candle as far as box office and number of sequels. If there’s anyone who understands the trends behind commercially successful horror films–and jaw-droppingly gruesome death scenes–it is Bousman.

It’s hard to find much information about Ninety. Without a IMDBPro account, which still only contains a skeletal synopsis, you’re left piecing together scant details of a project with a few attached actors and a basic slugline. The latter is certainly intriguing. The film is about a psychopathic, though wrongfully accused, felon who escapes from prison with a dramatically morbid objective: to commit 90 murders in 90 minutes while being chased by the detective that put him away in the first place.

That’s right, the movie will contain 90 murders, each one uniquely depraved. This seems like fairly usual terrain in the American cinema landscape that may afford ample opportunities for satire and trenchant social examination on top of the action. Even other recent horror film franchises like Hostel and The Hills Have Eyes have been able to integrate blistering critiques into their rather straight forward plots.

Produced by serial entrepreneur Christopher Mallick, who gave us Middle Men and this year’s Columbus Circle, Ninety sounds like it will continue in a unique tradition of truly bizarre movie plots told without apology or capitulation. Mallick, in addition to owning Oxymoron, also founded Stereo D, a 2D to 3D conversion studio he co-owns with actor/producer Giovanni Ribisi.

George Gallo, who directed both Middle Men and Columbus Circle, claims both films were approached as stories that needed to push forward relentlessly without stopping to explain themselves too much. Gallo and Mallick believe this cinematic strategy forces the viewer to pay closer attention, as even blinking once could allow a critical plot detail to be missed.

We can likely expect Ninety to follow a similarly relentless formula.
