The Hollywood Reporter – ‘Captian America’ Directors, and ‘Satellite Beach’

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Directors to Be Honored at HollyShorts Festival (Exclusive) as well as Luke Wilson’s short film “Satellite Beach” will screen on the opening night of the Los Angeles film festival.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo will be honored at the 10th annual HollyShorts Film Festival on opening night. The opening night of the 10-day festival will also feature Luke Wilson’s short film Satellite Beach, which follows the journey of the Endeavor space shuttle through the streets of LA and the final move of the Atlantis space shuttle to the Kennedy Space Center.

PHOTOS ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ World Premiere Invades Hollywood

The HollyShorts Film Festival runs August 14-23 at the TCL Chinese Theater and Roosevelt Hotel. The complete schedule, featuring around 400 shorts, will be announced later this week.

The Russo Brothers, who are confirmed to direct the third installment of Captain America for Marvel, got their start as indie filmmakers and later went on to direct and produce shows like Arrested Development and Community. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which hit theaters in April, has earned a stellar $713.2 million worldwide to date.

Luke Wilson and his brother Andrew Wilson co-wrote and co-directed Satellite Beach. Steve Eckleman and Christopher Mallick produced the film, which has won a number of awards at fests like the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and the High Desert International Film Festival.

Oxymoron’s 2013 Mid Year Film List

Now that we are half way through 2013, let’s look back at the 135 films that have been released thus far.  What films have you particularly liked and what films do you feel did not live up to your expectations?  Being within the film industry you can image how many of us at Oxymoron watch films per week.  Below is a running list of our current
“Top Picks”, “Fun Selections”, and noted “Indie Films”.

OXYMORON’S TOP PICKS:

The following films are Oxymoron’s “Top Picks” for mid 2013.  Gangster Squad which included Giovanni Ribisi gave an incredible performance with an on point method to the era.  Oz The Great and Powerful told an enchanting story with a dazzling continuing take on a classic tale.  JJ Abram’s Star Trek Into The Darkness gave an action packed journey into space while Baz Juhrmann’s The Great Gatsby provided a breathtaking and riveting performance by Leonardo Dicaprio.  From the sublties and no cut dialogues scenes of Before Midnight to Stoker offering a frightening and realisitc dark approach to a coming of age story, 2013 has released some great films midway through.
